“The PTPA’s action is regrettable and misguided, and we will vigorously defend our position in due course.

“The WTA is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to the advancement of women’s tennis for players, tournaments, and fans. WTA players, as equal partners with tournaments, have a vital and influential voice in the WTA’s governance. Player input is included in every decision made at the WTA Board level through their elected representatives. Athletes receive substantial financial rewards and benefits from their participation in the WTA.

“This governance model, supported by generations of athletes, has enabled the WTA to achieve significant progress for our players. Recent examples include a $400 million increase in player compensation, a pathway to equal pay at major WTA events, new investment to support the long-term growth of the sport, and the introduction of comprehensive maternity benefits for independent, self-employed athletes in women’s sports history.

“The WTA remains fully dedicated to developing and improving professional women’s tennis structure and operations, always listening carefully to our players’ perspectives. Contesting this baseless legal case will unfortunately divert time, attention, and resources away from our core mission, ultimately harming our players and the sport as a whole.”
