Upcoming ‘Superman’ Film Faces Censorship in India Over Kisses and Language

Reports indicate that James Gunn`s upcoming `Superman` film, set for a 2025 release, will undergo edits for its debut in India. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) of India has reportedly mandated specific changes before granting the highly anticipated superhero movie approval for exhibition.

According to information circulating, the required edits include the removal or muting of certain language deemed inappropriate, as well as the excision of two particular scenes from the film. These scenes reportedly involve depictions of kissing between the lead characters, Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

The CBFC`s rationale for demanding the removal of these moments is said to be that they were deemed overly `sensual` for Indian audiences. The scenes in question are described as occurring near the beginning and end of the film, effectively removing key instances of romantic interaction between the iconic duo.

Following these mandated adjustments, the film is expected to receive a 13+ age rating in India, indicating it is considered suitable for viewers aged 13 and above, presumably once the specified content has been removed or modified.

Directed by James Gunn, known for his distinct style in the `Guardians of the Galaxy` and `The Suicide Squad` franchises, the film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Its global premiere is scheduled for July 11, 2025.

The notion that a superhero film featuring aliens, superpowers, and potentially world-ending threats would face scrutiny primarily over displays of affection between its lead characters is, perhaps, a peculiar aspect of film distribution across varying cultural standards. Nevertheless, for viewers in India, the initial cinematic experience of James Gunn`s `Superman` will arrive with a slightly altered narrative, specifically curated to meet local censorship requirements.
