Referee James Williams explained the ejection, stating Young was penalized for `making a mockery of the game` by kicking the ball during the free throw attempt for the first technical foul. Two unsportsmanlike fouls result in ejection.
Adding to the incident, Young held onto the ball after being ejected, further delaying the game. This action is likely to result in a fine before the Hawks` next Play-In game against either the Heat or Bulls on Friday.
Young`s Play-In performances, both his playing and behavior, have become a recurring narrative. This will likely be a factor in Atlanta`s decisions regarding a contract extension for Young, who is eligible for free agency in 2026.
