The entry list for the upcoming Internationaux de Strasbourg tournament has been revealed. This year`s event is set to feature a strong field, with seven players ranked inside the Top 20 of the PIF WTA Rankings vying for the final WTA 500 title on the clay surface this season.
Leading the notable entries is two-time champion Elina Svitolina. The Ukrainian player will be looking to make history by becoming the first person to lift the Strasbourg trophy three times since Anabel Medina Garrigues accomplished the feat in 2008.
Svitolina has been in impressive form during the current clay-court season (2024), boasting an undefeated record of nine wins without a loss on the surface so far. Her strong performance includes a recent run to the semifinals at the WTA 1000 event in Madrid, her best result at that level since 2021.
Strasbourg holds a special place for Svitolina; her victory there in 2023 was her first WTA title following her return to the tour after maternity leave. She also won the tournament previously in 2020.
Another former champion listed among the main draw entries is Barbora Krejcikova. The current Wimbledon champion secured her maiden WTA singles title at Strasbourg in 2021. Just two weeks later, she went on to claim her first Grand Slam singles championship at Roland Garros.
The player field includes two members of the Top 10: World No. 9 Paula Badosa and World No. 10 Emma Navarro. Alongside Svitolina and Krejcikova, other Top 20 players confirmed to play are Daria Kasatkina, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Liudmila Samsonova.
The list of competitors also features former Grand Slam champions and finalists, such as 2020 Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin, and past Grand Slam finalists Danielle Collins and Leylah Fernandez.
The tournament organizers will announce additional wild card entries closer to the start date. Main draw competition at the Internationaux de Strasbourg is scheduled to commence on Sunday, May 18th.
