Swiatek clears the air: Wimbledon is still on the calendar

Following her significant loss to Coco Gauff in the Madrid semifinal last week with a score of 6-1, 6-1, Iga Swiatek admitted to being upset. However, speaking on Tuesday, she clarified that the extensive speculation circulating on social media was inaccurate. Swiatek firmly stated that she had not seriously considered cancelling her upcoming grass-court season.

Speaking to reporters at the Internazionali d’Italia, Swiatek addressed the rumors directly: “During past few days, I saw million comments that were not true. There are so many theories right now I would say especially in Polish media about me that are not true.”

As a four-time Roland Garros champion and the current World No. 2, Swiatek understands the level of public interest in her career and decisions.

Acknowledging the nature of sports reporting, Swiatek commented, “You guys like to make some articles that will attract people — I get it. It’s part of the job.”

She went on to definitively confirm her plans for the grass season: “But yeah, for sure I’m not going to skip Wimbledon. I really want to learn how to play on grass better. Every year is another opportunity. I will play Wimbledon, for sure, unless I get injured.”

Swiatek`s professional record at Wimbledon stands at 11 wins and 5 losses, which is less dominant compared to her results at the other three Grand Slams: Roland Garros (35-2), the US Open (20-5), and the Australian Open (22-7). Interestingly, her sole junior singles Grand Slam title was won at Wimbledon in 2018.
