The draw for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart was revealed on Sunday, setting the stage for a high-stakes WTA 500 tournament. This prestigious indoor clay-court event, featuring eleven of the world`s Top 20 players, marks the beginning of the European clay season.
The champion in singles will be awarded €142,610, 500 WTA ranking points, and a coveted Porsche Macan Turbo.
Main draw matches will commence on Monday, April 14, culminating in the singles final on Monday, April 21. Please note that there will be no matches on Friday, April 18, due to Good Friday.
The top four seeded players, who also hold the top four positions in the WTA rankings, will receive a bye in the first round.
Draw Highlights:
First Quarter
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is the top seed. She is aiming for her first Stuttgart title after finishing as runner-up for the past three years (2021-2023).
After her first-round bye, Sabalenka will play either Anastasia Potapova or Clara Tauson in the second round. If the seedings hold, she is projected to face No. 8 seed Diana Shnaider in the quarterfinals.
Second Quarter
No. 4 seed Coco Gauff leads this quarter. She awaits the winner of the match between Danielle Collins and wild card Tatjana Maria in the second round.
This quarter includes all four German wild card entries. No. 5 seed Jasmine Paolini is positioned in the opposite side of this quarter and could face German wild cards in her first two matches. A potential second-round match could be between Paolini and 2017 champion Laura Siegemund.
Third Quarter
If seedings are maintained, this quarter could feature a quarterfinal match between No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula and No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva, two of the most successful players this season.
Pegula enters Stuttgart fresh off winning the first WTA 500 clay-court title of the season in Charleston. She currently leads the WTA Tour in main-draw match wins this year with 25.
However, 17-year-old Andreeva is also having a strong season with 20 match wins, boosted by winning back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells.
Fourth Quarter
No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek is placed at the bottom of the draw. Swiatek has a strong record in Stuttgart with 10 wins and only 1 loss, having won the title in 2022 and 2023. Her perfect streak was broken by Elena Rybakina in last year`s semifinals.
If Swiatek reaches the quarterfinals, she might face No. 7 seed Emma Navarro. Another potential opponent in the quarterfinals is Jelena Ostapenko, a former Roland Garros champion who holds a 5-0 head-to-head record against Swiatek.
