The newest WTA rankings show notable shifts and comebacks following the Miami Open, a major WTA 1000 tournament, along with results from WTA 125 and ITF events.
Miami Open champion Aryna Sabalenka and runner-up Jessica Pegula hold their positions at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. However, Alexandra Eala made the most significant leap within the Top 200. The 19-year-old player from the Philippines defeated Grand Slam champions Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek to reach her first semifinal.
Eala, the 2022 US Open junior champion, had not previously won consecutive matches at the tour level. Her performance led to a jump of 65 places from No. 140 to a career-high No. 75, marking her first time in the Top 100.
Eala`s achievement is not only personal but also historic for her nation. She is the first player from the Philippines to break into the Top 100. She has a history of firsts for her country, including being the first Filipina to compete in a WTA main draw and win a match at that level in 2021. In July 2022, she surpassed the previous highest ranking for the Philippines, No. 284 set by Maricris Gentz in 1999.
Raducanu Returns to Top 50, Svitolina Back in Top 20
Emma Raducanu entered the Miami Open with only three wins in nine matches for the year. She rebounded strongly, reaching the quarterfinals and securing her third career Top 10 victory against Emma Navarro.
This quarterfinal was Raducanu`s best result since her 2021 US Open win and the first time she has won four matches in a row since then. She climbed 12 spots from No. 60 to No. 48, re-entering the Top 50 for the first time since September 2022.
Elina Svitolina had a strong Sunshine Double, following up a quarterfinal appearance in Indian Wells with a fourth-round showing in Miami. The Ukrainian player moved up four places to No. 18, returning to the Top 20 for the first time since May of last year.
Career Highs for Krueger, Danilovic, Kessler, Todoni
Americans Ashlyn Krueger and McCartney Kessler have been consistently improving and continued their strong performance in Miami. Krueger, 20, achieved her first Top 10 win by defeating Elena Rybakina on her way to the fourth round. Kessler, 25, reached the third round after wins over Marie Bouzkova and Linda Noskova before an injury stopped her progress.
Both players reached new career-high rankings this week. Krueger moved from No. 40 to No. 34, and Kessler from No. 48 to No. 42.
Two WTA 125 events in Antalya led to career highs for their champions. Anca Todoni of Romania won her third WTA 125 title at Antalya 1. After entering the Top 100 recently, she advanced another 17 positions from No. 100 to No. 83.
Olga Danilovic won Antalya 2 as the top seed without losing a set. She improved six places from No. 41 to No. 35.
Jaqueline Cristian earned her first WTA 125 title in Puerto Vallarta, and the Romanian player rose 15 places to match her career-high ranking of No. 57.
Teenagers Jimenez Kasintseva, Linda Fruhvirtova Recover Ground
While Eala gained attention in Miami, two of her peers born in 2005 also made significant comebacks. Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva, the 2020 Australian Open junior champion, had reached a career-high No. 121 in November 2022 but fell to No. 384. The 19-year-old from Andorra reached her first WTA 125 final at Antalya 2 and climbed 21 places to No. 130.
Linda Fruhvirtova has also seen both success and setbacks in her young career. After winning her first WTA title in Chennai, she entered the Top 50 in March 2023 but then dropped out of the Top 200 last October.
Fruhvirtova returned to Miami as a qualifier and reached the third round, including an upset win over Beatriz Haddad Maia. She continued her momentum by reaching the Puerto Vallarta WTA 125 final, resulting in a jump of 61 places from No. 215 to No. 154.
