Raducanu Advances to Miami Quarterfinals in Strong Showing

MIAMI — Emma Raducanu, remembered for her historic 2021 US Open victory as a qualifier, is making waves again. At 22, she`s setting her sights on new achievements, and the 2025 Miami Open is proving to be an excellent stage.

On Monday, representing Great Britain, Raducanu continued her impressive run, defeating No. 17 seed Amanda Anisimova with a score of 6-1, 6-3. This victory marks her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal appearance. She is set to compete against the winner of the match between No. 4 Jessica Pegula and No. 23 Marta Kostyuk.

In her recent matches, Raducanu has demonstrated dominant form, winning 24 out of 29 games, including a match where McCartney Kessler retired in the second set.

Raducanu displayed superior efficiency in her Round of 16 match against Anisimova, maintaining an equal count of winners and unforced errors, both at eight. In contrast, Anisimova recorded 12 winners but struggled with 37 unforced errors. The match concluded swiftly in just 69 minutes.

Notably, this marks only the second instance in Raducanu`s career where she has secured four consecutive main-draw victories on the WTA Tour. The first time was her remarkable US Open journey, where she achieved seven wins in the main draw and ten including qualifying rounds.

Anisimova, at 23, is also experiencing a career resurgence. After finishing 2024 ranked No. 36, she won a title at the Doha WTA 1000 event, significantly boosting her trajectory. This year, she has achieved an 11-4 record and reached a career-high ranking of No. 17.

With impressive wins against Anisimova and No. 8 seed Emma Navarro, Raducanu has now defeated two Top 20 players in the same tournament for the second time in her career. The first instance was her US Open triumph in New York, where she defeated Belinda Bencic and Maria Sakkari.
