Top-seeded Jessica Pegula rallied from a set down to win the Credit One Charleston Open, defeating Sofia Kenin 6-3, 7-5 in an all-American final.
Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion, looked poised to force a third set after building a 5-1 lead in the second. However, Pegula mounted an impressive comeback, winning six straight games to secure her second title of the season, following her win in Austin last month.
Pegula also recovered from an early deficit in the first set, demonstrating her resilience throughout the match.
Speaking after the match, Pegula acknowledged the challenging conditions and her fatigue. She credited her focus on holding serve and building momentum for her comeback.
With this victory, Pegula has won 17 of her last 19 matches and leads the WTA Tour with 25 wins this season. She is set to reach a career-high World No. 3 ranking and become the top-ranked American player.
