No. 5 seed Jasmine Paolini faced a strong challenge from wildcard Jule Niemeier but ultimately secured her place in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix quarterfinals for the second year in a row. Paolini advanced with a 6-1, 7-5 victory, saving a set point in the second set.
Niemeier`s determined play was highlighted by an impressive point in the second set. Chasing down a lob from Paolini, Niemeier executed a remarkable `tweener`. The shot was powerful and well-angled, forcing Paolini to stretch at the net. However, the Italian player responded effectively, hitting a volley winner to hold serve at 3-3.
Paolini`s resilience proved crucial in the decisive moments of the match. After winning seven consecutive games against a struggling Niemeier to take a 6-1, 2-0 lead, Paolini had to dig deep to fend off the German player`s attempted comeback. Niemeier managed to break Paolini`s serve twice but then made a backhand error on her own set point. In response, Paolini delivered her best groundstrokes of the match, winning the final three games to clinch the victory.
Paolini progresses to her second quarterfinal of 2025 and is set to compete against either No. 4 seed Coco Gauff or lucky loser Ella Seidel of Germany in her next match.
