The Minnesota Timberwolves have successfully returned to the Western Conference Finals, and the Indiana Pacers are back in the Eastern Conference Finals. These two teams, both defeated in their respective conference finals last year, are the first to secure a spot in the final four of this year`s NBA playoffs.
Minnesota eliminated the Golden State Warriors in their second-round series with four consecutive wins after Stephen Curry sustained an injury in Game 1. The Timberwolves previously lost to the Dallas Mavericks in last season`s WCF and are now set to face either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the Denver Nuggets in the next round.
In the East, the Indiana Pacers knocked out the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in five games. Despite finishing the regular season with 64 wins, the Cavaliers saw their playoff run end earlier than anticipated after losing three home games in the second round. The Pacers, seeded fourth this year, reached the conference finals as the sixth seed last season before being swept by the eventual champions, the Boston Celtics.
Two spots in the conference finals are still being contested. The Boston Celtics kept their hopes alive by winning Game 5 against the New York Knicks, despite playing without Jayson Tatum. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder hold a 3-2 series lead over the Denver Nuggets and have an opportunity to close out their series in Game 6 on Thursday.
