A jersey and shorts worn by basketball legend Michael Jordan during the 1992-93 Chicago Bulls season were sold for $2.6 million at auction, according to Heritage Auctions.
This specific uniform set was used during what was Jordan`s final season before his initial retirement from the sport. Heritage Auctions confirmed the items were photo-matched to 17 regular-season games played during that historic campaign, the year the Bulls achieved their third consecutive NBA championship title.
Heritage Auctions noted that both the jersey and shorts display `monumental game wear,` indicating a level of use that “far exceed[s]” most other Michael Jordan memorabilia previously offered at auction.
Further details provided by the auction house described the jersey as feeling softer than typical game-worn Jordan items due to `repeated cycles of sweaty wear and laundering.` Loose threads were also present, and the drawstring of the shorts showed a pink discoloration, believed to be caused by dye leaking during the washing process.
Providing context on the value of Jordan`s game-worn apparel, a different jersey, worn during Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz (and not including shorts), previously sold for a record $10.1 million in 2022. Another jersey from the 1996-97 season also fetched $4.6 million in a prior auction.
Following the conclusion of the 1992-93 season, Jordan did indeed retire, but he famously returned to the NBA in the 1994-95 season and subsequently led the Bulls to secure three more NBA championships.
