The Mexican national soccer team has relocated its hotel accommodations in Los Angeles due to security concerns, according to ESPN, just before the Concacaf Gold Cup begins this weekend. Initially planned to stay in downtown Los Angeles, “El Tri” will now reside in Long Beach to avoid potential civil unrest in the downtown area. Mexico is set to commence its Gold Cup schedule facing the Dominican Republic on Saturday, June 14.
The decision to move hotels stems from anti-ICE protests currently taking place in the Los Angeles region, which are reportedly entering their fifth night. Given the presence of National Guard troops and U.S. Marines deployed in the city, Concacaf granted permission for this late change to the team`s plans.
As the defending champions of the Concacaf Gold Cup, Mexico is aiming for a third consecutive regional tournament victory, building on their Concacaf Nations League win in March. Drawn into Group A, the team will compete against Costa Rica, Suriname, and the Dominican Republic. This marks their final major competitive tournament leading up to the 2026 World Cup, which Mexico will co-host alongside Canada and the United States.
