Memphis Grizzlies rookie standout Jaylen Wells was stretchered off the court after a frightening fall during Tuesday night`s game against the Hornets. The Grizzlies won the game.
Late in the first half, Wells received a pass and attempted a dunk. He successfully completed the dunk and grabbed the rim, but was undercut by KJ Simpson. Simpson`s action caused Wells to lose his balance and grip. Wells fell heavily, landing on his head.
Wells, a notable pick from the 2024 Draft (No. 39 overall) and a Rookie of the Year contender, received extended medical attention on the court before being stretchered off.
Following the game, Wells` agent informed ESPN that Wells is conscious, responsive, and able to move his limbs after the fall. However, it was confirmed that he fractured his right wrist.
Simpson was assessed a Flagrant 2 foul for the play and was ejected from the game. Simpson`s foul appeared unintentional. Replays show him attempting a chase-down block, realizing he was out of position, and then trying to avoid contact, which unfortunately led to him running into Wells` legs.
Hopefully, Wells` injury is not as serious as it initially appeared. Updates on his condition will be provided as they become available.
