Jalen Brunson, the star player for the New York Knicks, is set to make his comeback on Sunday, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes. Brunson has been sidelined for the past month due to a right ankle sprain. Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau mentioned to reporters earlier in the week that Brunson had received clearance to resume basketball activities. Following this, Brunson practiced with the team on Friday in Atlanta.

Brunson`s return is scheduled for the Knicks` home game against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. He had been absent for 14 games because of the ankle injury.

Coach Thibodeau commented after Friday`s practice that the decision regarding Brunson`s return was based on how Brunson felt and what the team considered best, taking into account all relevant factors.

Josh Hart of the Knicks noted that Brunson looked good in practice, stating, “He looked good. Got a lot of buckets, gave up a lot of buckets. So about normal.”

Having played in 61 games this season, and exceeding 20 minutes in each appearance, Brunson`s expected return against the Suns positions him to meet the NBA`s threshold of 65 games for end-of-season awards, provided he remains healthy. With six games remaining in the Knicks` schedule, Brunson has some flexibility in playing time to still qualify for All-NBA consideration.

Assuming he reaches the 65-game mark, Brunson is widely expected to secure a spot on an All-NBA team for the second year in a row. This season, he has averaged impressive statistics: 26.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 7.4 assists in 35.4 minutes per game.

The Knicks have maintained a 8-6 record in Brunson`s absence and hold an overall season record of 48-28. They currently rank third in the Eastern Conference, holding a three-game lead over the Indiana Pacers.

In addition to Brunson, guards Miles McBride and Cam Payne are also anticipated to return to the Knicks` lineup soon, as indicated by coach Thibodeau.

Looking ahead, after their weekend games, the Knicks will face the Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, and Cleveland Cavaliers, followed by a game against the Brooklyn Nets to conclude the regular season. This upcoming stretch is crucial for the Knicks to prepare for the postseason.
