Ja Morant Receives $75,000 Fine for Gesture

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant has been fined $75,000 by the NBA for making finger-gun gestures during a game against the Miami Heat on Thursday. This penalty comes after the league had already warned Morant about such behavior.

The NBA launched an investigation and issued a warning to Morant after he initially made the gesture in a previous game against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday. Although no fines were issued then, the league clarified that continuing the gesture would not be acceptable.

Previously, Morant faced significant league discipline related to actual firearms. He was suspended for 25 games at the start of the 2023-24 season for displaying a gun on Instagram Live. This followed an earlier eight-game suspension for a similar incident.

Despite the controversy, Morant made the game-winning shot against Miami in the same game where he made the gestures.
