Galfi Wins WTA 125 Oeiras Title: ‘Third Time’s the Charm’

After two previous runner-up finishes, Dalma Galfi has finally become a WTA 125 champion. The unseeded player from Hungary triumphed over No. 2 seed Katie Volynets of the United States with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to win the Oeiras Ladies Open title in Oeiras, Portugal.

Rain disrupted the schedule throughout the week, but the clay-court tournament concluded as planned on Sunday. The event culminated in Galfi`s impressive 2-hour and 13-minute comeback victory in the final.

“Third time’s the charm,” 26-year-old Galfi expressed in her Instagram post, celebrating her most significant professional title to date.

In her previous WTA 125 final appearances, Galfi was defeated by Sara Errani at Contrexeville in 2022 and by Darja Semenistaja earlier this month at La Bisbal d`Emporda. All of her WTA 125 finals have been on clay courts, and each one has extended to three sets.

In this victory, Galfi managed to recover after losing the first set and dominate the following two. She successfully saved all four break points against her in the second and third sets combined.

Throughout the tournament, Galfi only lost one set, which was the first set of the final match. She has won nine out of her last 10 matches, with the Oeiras title coming two weeks after her final appearance at La Bisbal d`Emporda.

Currently ranked No. 149, Galfi is expected to climb closer to the Top 120 in the upcoming rankings update. A former ITF Junior World Champion and Junior US Open champion in 2015, Galfi achieved her career-high PIF WTA Ranking of No. 79 in 2022.

In other news from Sunday, Portuguese sisters Francisca and Matilde Jorge successfully defended their Oeiras Ladies Open doubles title on their home ground.

The Jorge siblings had previously won their biggest career title at this same event last year. This year, as the No. 2 seeds, they repeated their success by defeating unseeded Anastasia Detiuc and Patricia Maria Tig 6-1, 6-2 in a 63-minute final.
