EA Sports F1 25 Preview: Aiming for the Championships

While F1 25 continues its legacy as a highly realistic racing simulation, the series has expanded significantly beyond pure sim mechanics since F1 21. A key component is Braking Point, the narrative-driven mode now entering its third chapter in F1 25. Similar to the My Team mode where players manage an organization, Braking Point immerses you in the intense experiences and challenges faced by a rising Formula 1 team.

Gavin Cooper, the creative director, explained the evolution: “When we first brought in the Braking Point characters in F1 21 and later Konnersport in F1 23, our focus was authenticity. It didn`t seem credible for them to immediately challenge for championships,” Cooper stated. “However, our investment and time spent developing these characters over the past five years means we`re now ready to tell that championship-contending story, positioning them as rivals against the established official teams.”

A key goal for Braking Point is to encourage new players and keep them engaged with the game.

“We understand that Braking Point is often the first mode new players experience,” Cooper noted. “Our aim is to provide a smooth transition from finishing the story directly into other parts of the game. We`ve observed a very high completion rate for Braking Point among players who start it.”

“Upon completing Braking Point, players will get a unique option allowing them to seamlessly continue with the Konnersport team directly into either of the game`s Career modes.”

Replayability is also a factor, as different choices regarding your driver during events can lead to alternate story endings.

Nvidia Audio2Face technology allowed the developers to fully animate drivers.

For seasoned players, a challenging new fourth difficulty level has been added to Braking Point. The existing three difficulties have also been adjusted to better cater to a wider skill range. Adding to the immersive experience is the use of Nvidia Audio2Face technology, enabling realistic facial animations driven by audio during segments like “Meet The Press.” This advanced animation tech is also integrated into the My Team mode, bringing facility staff to life.

A unique addition this year is a crossover with the upcoming “F1” movie, featuring Brad Pitt. The film`s fictional team, Apex Grand Prix (APXGP), will be available in F1 25 from day one. Players can select APXGP in My Team or introduce them as the 11th team on the grid in Driver Career mode. Post-launch (following the movie`s release on June 25), special in-game events tied to key movie moments will be available, offering exclusive rewards, including car liveries, driver suits, and helmets seen in the film being unlockable in-game.

Alongside updates to My Team and expected annual gameplay improvements, F1 25 is shaping up to be the most comprehensive racing simulation from the series to date. Players can anticipate getting hands-on with the game starting May 30.
