David Beckham Praises Arsenal’s Champions League Performance

David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami and Manchester United legend, has applauded Arsenal for their impressive run in the Champions League. Following Arsenal`s victory over Real Madrid, Beckham stated it was `great to see an English team` progressing to the semi-finals of the prestigious competition.

Arsenal secured a dominant 5-1 aggregate win against Real Madrid, reaching the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2009. They are also the first English team to reach this stage since Manchester City`s triumph two years prior. Despite having played for Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain – Arsenal`s next opponent – Beckham expressed his support for the Gunners, partly because his son is a dedicated fan.

“I think it`s fantastic to see an English team in the semis,” Beckham commented on UEFA Champions League Today. “If Arsenal progresses, defeats PSG, and reaches the final, it would be a remarkable achievement for the club, for Mikel Arteta as manager, and for the team`s Champions League performances this year. My son is a big fan, so I hope they do well, but facing PSG, I know who I`ll be supporting that night. Regardless, we always want English teams to succeed in such a special competition.”

Beckham also commended Arsenal for their performance in both matches against Real Madrid, even though it created a somewhat conflicted viewing experience with his Arsenal-supporting son and his friend.

“Many expected a comeback from Real Madrid,” Beckham mentioned, referring to pre-match discussions in Madrid. “But in reality, Arsenal deserved the win over the two games. Their performance was complete – excellent individual displays, strong teamwork, and great management from Mikel Arteta. While I anticipated more of a challenge from Real Madrid, it wasn`t to be. Arsenal managed the game exceptionally well, with outstanding performances from the entire defense and, of course, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka. It was truly an exceptional away performance.”

Beckham`s appearance on UEFA Champions League Today was in anticipation of `Beckham and Friends Live,` an alternative broadcast set to air on Paramount+ for the semi-finals and final.

Hosted by Kate Scott, the UEFA Champions League Today anchor, `Beckham and Friends Live` will feature Beckham and guests enjoying the later stages of the premier European club competition. The first two shows will broadcast from London for the semi-final second legs on May 6th and 7th, before moving to Munich`s Allianz Arena for the final on May 31st.

Beckham remains secretive about his guest list but offered a preview of the show, stating, “I`m really looking forward to watching the game with friends, enjoying a few glasses of wine, and having great conversation.”
