Charleston Open to Introduce Electronic Line Calling

The Credit One Charleston Open is set to become the first clay court tournament on the Hologic WTA Tour to utilize Electronic Line Calling Live (ELC Live). This technology will be implemented during the event, scheduled from March 29th to April 6th.

ELC Live provides automated “out” calls throughout matches. It has already been adopted across various court surfaces, and Charleston will mark a milestone as the first Hologic WTA Tour event to use this technology on clay for both qualifying and main draw matches.

This system is designed for improved accuracy and consistency in line calls. It is the result of extensive testing over several seasons. ELC Live is also scheduled to be used at the WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome later in the season.

Tournament Director Bob Moran of the Charleston Open stated that the introduction of Electronic Line Calling is a significant step for clay court tournaments in the Hologic WTA Tour. He emphasized that this technology will improve the precision and reliability of line calls on clay courts, establishing a new benchmark in tennis. He believes that embracing this innovation will lead to a better experience for players and fans and raise the level of competition at clay court events.

Fabrice Chouquet, WTA Senior Vice President for Competition & On-Site Operations, expressed gratitude to Charleston for adopting ELC Live this year. He noted the WTA`s satisfaction with the increasing adoption of evolving technology by tournaments. Chouquet highlighted that ELC Live ensures consistent and accurate line calls, minimizing interruptions and benefiting players, fans, media, and the overall tournament operation.

This implementation is part of a broader set of innovations being introduced on the Hologic WTA Tour, including the Video Review System, which is also available on two courts in Charleston.
