Camila Osorio Wins Third Bogota Title in Dominant Fashion

On Sunday, Colombian tennis star Camila Osorio reaffirmed her dominance on home ground by successfully defending her Copa Colsanitas Zurich title in Bogota.

As the No. 2 seed, Osorio defeated Polish qualifier Katarzyna Kawa in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, securing her third Bogota title. She previously won the tournament in 2021 and the preceding year.

Osorio is now only the second player to achieve three or more singles titles in Bogota, moving closer to Fabiola Zuluaga`s record of four titles won between 1999 and 2004.

Osorio`s path to victory was not without its challenges. In her second-round match against Emina Bektas, she faced a match point but managed to recover and win after a grueling 2 hours and 31 minutes.

Following this close call, Osorio`s performance improved significantly. She won her subsequent matches against Tatjana Maria in the quarterfinals and Julia Riera in the semifinals in straight sets.

The final against Kawa was also a straightforward victory for Osorio. She secured the first set with an ace and quickly established a double-break lead in the second set at 3-0.

Despite Kawa`s efforts to regain ground, Osorio maintained her advantage and eventually won the match on her fourth championship point after 1 hour and 23 minutes.

Osorio concluded the final match with 22 winners compared to Kawa`s 14, converting five out of ten break points.

For Kawa, reaching the final was a significant achievement, marking her second WTA singles final in six years. Her performance this week is expected to bring her closer to re-entering the Top 150, after nearly falling out of the Top 300 last November.

The tournament also highlighted the emergence of 16-year-old American Julieta Pareja, who reached the semifinals in her WTA main-draw debut, becoming the youngest semifinalist since Coco Gauff in 2019.

In doubles, Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain, the top seeds, won the Copa Colsanitas Zurich title. They overcame Laura Pigossi of Brazil and Irina Bara of Romania in a close final with a score of 5-7, 6-2, [10-5].

This victory marks the second title for Bucsa and Sorribes Tormo as a team, following their WTA 1000 Madrid win last year. They also secured a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics last year.

For both Bucsa and Sorribes Tormo, this is their sixth WTA doubles title.
