Could wedding bells be ringing soon for another of tennis`s prominent power couples?
While they haven`t yet followed the path of recently married Madison Keys and Bjorn Fratangelo or the newly engaged Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur in taking a significant step in their relationship, Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas playfully hinted at the possibility when questioned on the red carpet of the Laureus World Sports Awards on Monday.
Walking the red carpet in matching white outfits designed by Pedro del Hierro – a shade they both quipped was `a Greek color` – the couple confessed that their fashion choice wouldn`t look out of place at a future significant event.
“Maybe it`s a sign,” Badosa remarked about their attire. Tsitsipas then added that they have even thought about idyllic spots for a potential `Greek wedding`.
However, they haven`t finalized any plans yet.
“We`re still trying to figure it out,” Tsitsipas commented.
“We`re competing, like Spain, Greece, Spain, Greece. But Greece has my heart,” Badosa replied, highlighting her connection despite being Spanish.
Badosa and Tsitsipas weren`t the only top tennis players attending the prestigious event, held in Madrid just before the start of the combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open.
Other notable figures from the tennis world included Carlos Alcaraz, who was nominated for World Sportsman of the Year and received his award from Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal, who was honored with the Laureus Sporting Icon Award. Belinda Bencic, Caroline Garcia, Laureus ambassador Garbiñe Muguruza, and Donna Vekic were also present.
The attendance of many global sports icons, including Simone Biles, Rebecca Andrade, and Lindsey Vonn, left Tsitsipas feeling star-struck.
“Paula and I haven`t been to a gala like this before – it`s quite a new experience for us,” Tsitsipas shared. “Her dress and my outfit… created an amazing transformation. Tonight feels like something out of a Hollywood movie.”
