Argentina`s Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrich, recently provided the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires with a list containing the names of more than 15,000 football supporters who have a history of violent behavior. These individuals are now barred from attending the upcoming Club World Cup tournament scheduled to take place in the United States this summer.
According to Minister Bullrich, this measure is of significant importance. She stated that preventing anyone with a record of violence or criminal acts committed in Argentine stadiums from participating in this major international sporting event is a key objective. The list, she noted, specifically targets over 15,000 people prohibited from stadium entry.
The names on this list were compiled through the `Tribuna Segura` program, an initiative designed to identify and monitor individuals who have been banned from attending sports events in Argentina due to misconduct.
Bullrich highlighted the program`s achievements since the current government, led by President Javier Milei, took office in 2023. She mentioned that `Tribuna Segura` has monitored over four million individuals across 1,328 matches. This monitoring has led to the identification of 1,166 people with outstanding arrest warrants and resulted in more than 40 administrative decisions restricting their access to stadiums.
The Club World Cup is set to be held in the U.S. from June 14th to July 13th. Two prominent Argentine clubs, Boca Juniors and River Plate, are among the participants. Boca Juniors will compete in Group C, facing Germany`s Bayern Munich, Portugal`s Benfica, and New Zealand`s Auckland City. River Plate is in Group F, where they will play against Italy`s Inter Milan, Mexico`s Monterrey, and Japan`s Urawa Red Diamonds during the group stage.
