Alizé Cornet, a French tennis player, is preparing to make a comeback to professional tennis less than a year after announcing her retirement at the French Open.
The 35-year-old has revealed her planned schedule for returning to the court on clay in the coming months. Her return will begin at the La Bisbal d`Empordà WTA 125 event starting on March 31st. Following this, she will participate at the tour level again at the Open Capfinances Rouen Métropole, having been granted a wild card for the event starting on April 14th. Cornet also intends to compete in the qualifying rounds for the WTA 1000 tournaments in Madrid and Rome.
Cornet shared her excitement online, stating that after eight weeks of intense training following her retirement, she is eager to return to competition. She expressed that even if it`s just for a few tournaments, her desire to play and the thrill of competition are strong. She has been working hard and is looking forward to sharing this experience with fans.
Alizé Cornet, who previously reached No. 11 in the world rankings, last played at Roland Garros the previous year, losing in the first round to Zheng Qinwen. Her distinguished career was celebrated in an emotional ceremony on court after the match. Her most recent professional victory was against Olivia Gadecki at the WTA 125 event in Paris last May, where she reached the quarterfinals. Her last win at the tour level was against Yanina Wickmayer in the first round of Cluj-Napoca in February of the previous year.
Cornet began her professional tennis journey in 2004, winning six WTA titles throughout her career. She holds the record for participating in 69 consecutive Grand Slam main draws and has achieved 25 victories against Top 10 players, including wins over Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Aryna Sabalenka, and Iga Swiatek. Despite retiring, she remained in the WTA rankings and is currently positioned at No. 523.
