NBA free agency has officially commenced. As of Monday evening, teams and players could legally start negotiations, anticipating a busy week of transactions. A major surprise occurred Tuesday morning when the Bucks secured center Myles Turner, previously of the Pacers, on a four-year contract. Milwaukee created cap space for this significant signing by waiving nine-time All-Star Damian Lillard, making him a free agent.

Prior to Tuesday, several prominent players who might have explored free agency chose to remain with their current teams. This includes LeBron James, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Julius Randle, Naz Reid, and Fred VanVleet, all of whom finalized deals for the 2025-26 season with their existing franchises.

LeBron James exercised his $52.6 million player option with the Lakers for the 2025-26 season. Despite this, speculation about a potential trade for the NBA icon persists. His agent, Rich Paul, indicated to ESPN that LeBron`s representatives would assess the best path forward for him at this point in his life and career. Therefore, while James might be traded, he won`t enter free agency.

With many top players already committed, the remaining free agency pool has changed. As of Monday morning, Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga and Bulls guard Josh Giddey were considered among the top available players (note: the following rankings list players who made decisions prior to Monday). Experienced players like Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook are also seeking new teams, and Deandre Ayton recently joined the free agent pool after a contract buyout.

Key signings on Monday included Nickeil Alexander-Walker joining the Hawks and Dorian Finney-Smith heading to the Rockets, further reducing the number of available players. What other moves will define the remainder of the offseason?
