Although the 2024 NBA Draft didn`t generate the same level of anticipation as the draft featuring Victor Wembanyama in 2023 or the upcoming 2025 class with Cooper Flagg, it still yielded a cohort of talented young players. On Tuesday, ten of the standout performers from the 2024 rookie class were recognized with selections to the 2024-25 NBA All-Rookie teams.
Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs, who earned Rookie of the Year honors, and Zaccharie Risacher of the Atlanta Hawks, the No. 1 overall pick, lead the First Team selections. Castle was a unanimous choice. The Memphis Grizzlies organization saw two of its first-year players, Jaylen Wells and Zach Edey, named to the All-Rookie rosters.
All-Rookie First Team
- Stephon Castle (Spurs)
- Zaccharie Risacher (Hawks)
- Jaylen Wells (Grizzlies)
- Alex Sarr (Wizards)
- Zach Edey (Grizzlies)
All-Rookie Second Team
- Kel`el Ware (Heat)
- Matas Buzelis (Bulls)
- Yves Missi (Pelicans)
- Donovan Clingan (Trail Blazers)
- Bub Carrington (Wizards)
As widely expected, Stephon Castle was the sole unanimous selection to the team. The guard from UConn had a memorable rookie campaign, averaging 14.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.7 rebounds, culminating in him winning the Rookie of the Year award. Zaccharie Risacher, selected first overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, received 49 out of a possible 50 first-place votes.
Jaylen Wells of the Grizzlies was the only second-round draft pick to be named to an All-Rookie team. Wells was selected with the 39th pick in last summer`s draft and contributed averages of 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists.
Unlike some other NBA awards, there is no minimum games played requirement for All-Rookie team eligibility. This rule meant players like Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain were eligible, despite missing significant time due to injury (a meniscus tear in his left knee). McCain averaged 15.3 points in 23 appearances. He received one first-place vote and five second-place votes.
